General recommendations

If to put the diagram of the octagon ba-gua on the scheme of the living-room, its configuration will immediately come clear in case this room has a rectangular shape. This means that all the elements are in a harmonious balance. But this balance is broken if the room has projections and alcoves. One of the ways to correct the unpleasant Fen-shui of such a room is the arrangement of furniture. 

There is a row of rules which one should follow while furnishing a living-room. The centre of attraction should be created round the one out of eight sides of ba-gua. The most desirable sides are family, relationships, helpers and wealth. For example it is good to set a TV in a corner which symbolizes wealth, and to set all the rest of furniture the way it is shown in the picture. In such cases masters of fen-shui recommend to fix the sitting place for an honoured guest or a head of family facing the door, but not opposite it. It is very important because otherwise you’ll create the athmoshere of confrontation. Anyoune who’ll enter the room will face with you or your guest, what will lead to the forced succession of reactions and moves. Pay your attention that the arrangement of the furniture, shown on the picture coincides with the octagon ba-gua well and give an impression of naturalness.

The place of the honored guest is the best in the room, it is often disposed near the fireplace, incase there is one, or in a convenient position relating to the TV-set. From that place a good sight from the window can be seen, but it shouldn’t be opposite the window, otherwise your guest will feel vulnerable. One of the main presuppositions, which is usually admitted without any explanations, is that armchairs and sofas should be arranged the way their back look at the walls, but not at chairs or windows. The position near the wall gives the feeling of calm and protection. But usually theirs is no possibility to arrange all the chairs this way. In case a chair stands near a window, one can solve the situation with the help of a plant or a bookshelf.

Chairs, sofas and armchairs can be arranged differently. If one chair is opposite the other one, even under a low table that will create a suitable situation for a sincere conversation, but not very suitable for taciturn or unknown to each other people. There’s nothing worse than to sit opposite a talkative person, when you don’t want to talk. If chairs form a corner that will create a comfortable atmosphere and people will be able to talk when they want to. The same situation is created when armchairs are arranged opposite one another but forming a corner with an armchair.

Then everyone will be satisfied because they will be able to talk to everyone. In case there are alcoves, for example, at the both sides of the fireplace, one can place plants in the corners. They do a lot of good for ci circulation. Wall lamps especially in combination with pictures and photos on the wall can also be useful. It is important not to cram the living-room with too much furniture, plants or decoration. The moving of ci energy should be easy, otherwise you’ll create the feeling of languor and despondency. The central zone of a living-room should be free from any pieces of furniture. If you have put a low table there, decorate it with a vase with flowers. The flowers are desirable to be of the yellow colour, the colour of the element Earth.

This will be the symbol of well-being and prosperity of your family. One should beware of the secret pointers, which certain opened bookcases, bookshelves and other pieces of furniture may form. Use closing bookcases or decorate them with cloth and green plants.
